Why every NEWS is B R E A K I N G...?

A few days back, I was arranging the huge pack of channels aired on the cable television, and behold, I was surprised by counting the number of news channels on television. The news channels accounted to the maximum number, more than even the double of the next biggest category of channels which was thankfully movie channels.

This made me wonder why is news selling so much..and what is it thats keeping news in-demand. Hence, I started analyzing the various news channels and you would be amazed to know that out of the 25 odd news channels, on 19 of them the News was B R E A K I N G...and on the remaining there was a comedian trying hard to make people laugh.

Whether it is the latest bollywood break-up or it is Khali's WWE drama; whether it is another kid falling in a deep pit or it is Sachin's injury; whether it was Rakhi Sawant's next item number or it was Shah Rukh Khan and his IPL team...every news on each of the news channel was so called breaking news.

The concept of this breaking the unbreakable news is what has led to this unprecedented rise in the number of news channels because the maximum masala which the Indian audience needs today is neither available on the everlasting saas-bahu soaps nor they are available on the ever increasing dance/music based reality shows. The most sensationalized material is actually available on our news channels only which contribute only 10-20% of their time in delivering relevant and actual news, and for the rest of the time, they keep themselves busy by interfering into the lives of bollywood stars, analyzing the affairs of the young cricket stars, showing what is been already shown on a comedy show on a different channel, exclusively covering the marriage of a high profile star kid or by showing a very dangerous character analyzing crimes in your vicinity.

I don't know what value addition these news channels are doing to the audience, but I am sure they are doing two things definitely, one, fighting for TRPs and two, B R E A K I N G the much needed NEWS!!!
